Hamzah to visit S. Sumatra<\/p>\n
PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Vice President Hamzah Haz,
\naccompanied by three Cabinet ministers hailing from South
\nSumatra, Hatta Rajasa, Ali Marwan Hanan, and Said Aqil Al
\nMunawar, is scheduled to arrive in Palembang for a one-day
\nofficial visit on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The high-ranking officials are slated to attend a thanksgiving
\nprayer at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Grand Mosque held in
\nconnection with the selection of Palembang as host for the 16th
\nNational Games (PON) in 2004.<\/p>\n
The grand mosque is now being renovated.<\/p>\n
The VP's entourage will also visit Siti Khadijah Islamic
\nHospital on Jl. Demang Lebar Daun, Pakjo.<\/p>\n
The three ministers are reportedly to visit their respective
\nhome villages.<\/p>\n
According to Lexy Yoesman, the South Sumatra provincial
\nspokesman, Hamzah and the ministers had confirmed their planned
\nvisit.<\/p>\n
The visit was previously scheduled for Aug. 22, but the VP had
\nanother important commitment on that day.<\/p>\n
Separately, Usman Said, the chairman of Sultan Mahmud
\nBadaruddin II Grand Mosque Foundation said he hoped that Hamzah
\nvisit would help accelerate the ongoing mosque renovation
\nproject.<\/p>\n
\"Hopefully, the official visit will help us collect more funds
\nfor the renovation project,\" Said said, stating that, the
\nfoundation had just received Rp 1 billion from Taufik Kiemas, the
\nhusband of President Megawati Soekarnoputri.<\/p>\n
