Tehran (ANTARA) - Palestinian militant group Hamas has condemned\nIsraeli settlers for burning a mosque in the occupied West Bank, calling\nthe arson attack a \u201cfascist and organised crime\u201d.<\/p>\n
Hamas issued the statement in response to the actions of Israeli\nsettlers who burned down the Abu Bakr as-Siddiq Mosque, located between\nthe towns of Sarra and Tal near Nablus in the northern West Bank.<\/p>\n
According to Hamas, the settlers also defaced the walls of the mosque\nwith racist slogans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe actions carried out on Monday (23\/2) by Zionist settlers are a\nfascist and organised crime, as well as a blatant attack on places of\nworship and holy sites of Islam. This is a clear violation of all\ninternational laws and norms that guarantee the protection of places of\nworship and holy sites,\u201d Hamas said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Hamas called on the Palestinian people to act to protect mosques and\nother religious sites in the face of attacks by Zionist settlers and to\nresist this aggression.<\/p>\n
The group also called on the United Nations (UN) and all human rights\norganisations to condemn \u201cthis evil fascist behaviour\u201d and demand that\nthe perpetrators be held accountable.<\/p>\n
In addition, Hamas called for Israeli officials to be held\naccountable for supporting such brutal crimes against the Palestinian\npeople and the holy sites of Islam and Christianity.<\/p>\n
