Hamami to replace Dibyo as city's new police chief<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Deputy City Police Chief Brig. Gen. Hamami Nata
\nwill become Jakarta's new police chief today, replacing Maj. Gen.
\nDibyo Widodo, says spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna.<\/p>\n
Hamami, 49 and a former adjutant to President Soeharto, will
\nbe installed as chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police by
\nNational Police Chief Gen. Banurusman, who will be replaced by
\nDibyo.<\/p>\n
Brig. Gen. Gunawan, Head of the Research and Development
\nDivision of the National Police, replaces Hamami.<\/p>\n
The city police headquarters is not a new place for Gunawan,
\nwho was once head of Jakarta's detective unit.<\/p>\n
According to a tentative plan, Dibyo will be promoted to
\nlieutenant general before being installed as National Police
\nChief by the Armed Forces Commander Gen. Feisal Tanjung at the
\nPolice Academy in Semarang, Central Java, on Monday.<\/p>\n
Hamami, who will soon be promoted to major general, has served
\nas the chief deputy of the Jakarta Police for about 14 months.<\/p>\n
He was once head of the Lido Police School in Sukabumi, West
\nJava, and chief of the North Jakarta and Central Jakarta police.
\nHe was then appointed as deputy of the Jakarta police's Planning
\nand Budgeting division.<\/p>\n
Before being appointed city police chief deputy in January
\nlast year, Hamami served as an adjutant to the President for
\nabout three years.<\/p>\n
The general was married to Herlina and has two sons.<\/p>\n
Hamami is a graduate of the Armed Forces Academy for Police,
\nthe Police High School, Senior Officers School and the National
\nResilience Institute.<\/p>\n
Farewell parade<\/p>\n
Gunawan will be installed at a ceremony in the parking lot of
\nthe Traffic Police Directorate at the City Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n
The ceremony will be followed by a farewell parade for the
\noutgoing City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Dibyo Widodo.<\/p>\n
Due to the activities and parades to be held by some of the
\n15,000 city police personnel, the city police headquarters will
\nbe closed for day, said spokesman Iman.<\/p>\n
People who need to visit the station should park at the nearby
\nParkir Timur Senayan area, Iman said.<\/p>\n
\"The police headquarters will be closed until 10 a.m. the
\nfollowing day due to the installment ceremony,\" the spokesman
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
A number of important figures, including politicians and
\nsenior Armed Forces officers, are expected to attend today's
\nceremony.<\/p>\n
In related development yesterday, Dibyo installed Lt. Col.
\nSisno Adiwinoto as the new South Jakarta Police Chief, replacing
\nLt. Col. SY Wenas.<\/p>\n
Sisno, 43, handed over his position as Depok police chief to
\nLt. Col. Herman S. Sumawiredja, head of the city traffic police's
\ninvestigation unit, on Monday.<\/p>\n
Both Sisno and Herman, 44, have spent most of their careers
\nwith the traffic police unit. They also took a six-month traffic
\npolice course at the Politie Verkeersinstituut at Apeldoorn in
