Half of Tangerang's roads damaged<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): About half of the 550 kilometers of main
\nstreets in the Tangerang mayoralty have been seriously or
\nslightly damaged, head of the Bina Marga road development agency
\nEngkan Lengkana reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\"Of the total 550 km, 250 km are damaged,\" he told reporters.<\/p>\n
The damaged roads, he added, excluded those located within
\nhousing complexes.<\/p>\n
Engkan blamed the damage on the recent, heavier than normal
\nrainy season that has deluged the area for extended periods and
\nthe ignorance of drivers of many heavy trucks, racing their
\nvehicles on the flooded streets.<\/p>\n
The cracked streets included the mayoralty's main
\nthoroughfares of Jl. Imam Bonjol, Jl. Muhammad Toha, Jl. K.S.
\nTubun and Jl. M.H. Thamrin, he explained.<\/p>\n
Making matters worse, he added, are the large number of
\nfactories in Tangerang outpacing the construction of proper
\nroads.<\/p>\n
In an effort to meet the growing public complaints, the agency
\nhas started to repair some of the damaged roads beginning this
\nweek.<\/p>\n
\"We're doing our best with the repairs, with the goal that the
\ndamaged roads will be reduced to less than 10 percent (of the
\ntotal roads),\" Engkan said.<\/p>\n
He said, his office has been ordered by the mayoralty
\nadministration office to complete repairs of the damaged roads
