        "content": "<p>Halal label prone to corruption<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The ministry of religious affairs will soon form a<br>\nworking team to modify three decisions it issued earlier on the<br>\nimplementation of the halal label for food and drink products.<\/p>\n<p>The modification announcement came despite strong opposition<br>\nfrom the House of Representatives (DPR) and a Muslim consumers<br>\nassociation who alleged that the halal label would only burden<br>\nconsumers at large and create the opportunity for more nepotism,<br>\ncollusion and corruption.<\/p>\n<p>\"We agreed to set up a working team to remedy the religious<br>\naffairs minister's decrees,\" religious affairs ministry secretary<br>\ngeneral Faisal Ismail said here on Tuesday after a meeting<br>\ndiscussing the halal label issue.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was also attended by representatives from the<br>\nhealth ministry's Food and Medicine Supervisory Board (POM), the<br>\nNahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, the National Accreditation<br>\nCommission, the Association of Indonesian Food and Drink<br>\nBusinesspeople and a number of non-governmental organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Issued in 2001, the three ministerial decisions concern the<br>\nguidelines and procedures of halal food inspection, the halal<br>\nfood inspection agency and the appointment of a state-owned<br>\ncompany to print halal stickers. -- Antara<\/p>",
