R Widya Setiabudi Sumadinata, Vice Rector for Resource
Affairs and Governance at Unpad, stated that the halal issue currently
involves aspects of health, welfare and governance of public life that
are broader, both in Muslim and non-Muslim countries. ‘Nowadays halal is
not merely about a label, but about the process and the quality
assurance of a product until it reaches the hands of the public. When
the process is carried out correctly, the results will bring goodness,’
he said in Bandung on Wednesday. In line with this, Director General of
Islamic Community Guidance of the Ministry of Religion Abu Rokhmad
emphasised the importance of strengthening halal literacy from an early
age, especially for the younger generation so they are not trapped in a
false sense of security due to living in a majority-Muslim environment.
‘Indonesia already has a legal umbrella regulating halal product
assurance that provides certainty for consumption of food, medicines,
and cosmetics. Now halal has developed into part of the industry and
global lifestyle,’ he said. Abu Rokhmad added that the high interest of
international business actors to penetrate the Indonesian market through
halal certification opens up great opportunities for students to
participate in the multidisciplinary halal industry ecosystem.
",
