An Indonesian Hajj officer, Muhaimin, chose to remain on duty in Saudi Arabia after his wife died in Indonesia, drawing praise from the Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah. The minister visited the family in Malang to express condolences and honour the officer's dedication. The story highlights the personal sacrifices made by Hajj workers behind the scenes.

In the midst of serving Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia,
Muhaimin received devastating news: his beloved wife, Diana Maf’ulla,
had passed away in their homeland. Yet, the Hajj Organising Officer
(PPIH) for Saudi Arabia chose to remain in the Holy Land to fulfil the
mandate entrusted to him.

The decision was far from easy. At a time when most would rush home
to be with family, Muhaimin had to suppress his longing and grief while
continuing to serve hundreds of thousands of Indonesian pilgrims until
his assignment ends on 2 July 2026.

This difficult choice earned the respect of Deputy Minister of Hajj
and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak. On Friday (12/6/2026), Dahnil
visited the late Diana Maf’ulla’s family home in Malang, East Java, to
offer condolences in person.

“On behalf of the entire family of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and
all Indonesian Hajj officers, we extend our deepest condolences on the
passing of the late Ibu Diana Maf’ulla. May Allah SWT forgive all her
shortcomings, accept her deeds of worship, and grant her the best place
by His side,” Dahnil said in an official statement.

During the visit, Dahnil met the deceased’s daughter, Mia, and other
relatives. He admitted he was moved by the family’s fortitude in letting
go of a mother while accepting that the father must still carry out his
duties in a distant land.

According to Dahnil, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had actually
given Muhaimin the option to return home immediately after receiving the
news. However, Muhaimin chose to continue his service until the end of
his assignment.

“We actually gave him the opportunity to return to Indonesia. But he
chose to complete his service in the Holy Land until his assignment
ends. This is a decision born of a profound sense of responsibility
towards the mandate he is carrying,” Dahnil said.

For Dahnil, the decision reveals a side of Hajj officers’ dedication
that is rarely seen. Behind the services received by pilgrims, there are
officers who willingly spend months apart from their families and even
face severe personal trials.

Because of this, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah extends its highest
respect to Muhaimin and all Indonesian Hajj officers who continue to
work serving pilgrims amidst various challenges.

“We are here not only to convey condolences, but also as a mark of
respect to the family who have supported his service,” Dahnil
stated.

Amid the grief enveloping the family, Muhaimin’s resilience serves as
a reminder that Hajj service is not merely an administrative task. It
carries a mandate, dedication, and sacrifice that sometimes must be paid
with a longing that cannot be immediately resolved.

Dahnil also invited the public to pray for the deceased, that she may
receive husnul khatimah, and for the bereaved family to be granted
sincerity and strength in facing this trial.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. May Allah SWT grant mercy and
forgiveness to the late Ibu Diana Maf’ulla, and may the family left
behind be given fortitude and strength,” he said.
",
