        "content": "<p>Hail fell in several areas of Balik Bukit district, West Lampung\nregency. BMKG Lampung said the phenomenon was triggered by the intense\ngrowth of cumulonimbus (Cb) clouds.<\/p>\n<p>BMKG Lampung forecaster on duty Iqbal Arief Pangestu explained that\nhail forms inside cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds have strong\nupdrafts, which can carry water droplets into atmospheric layers where\ntemperatures are below freezing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe water droplets then freeze and undergo processes inside the\ncloud before eventually falling to the earth\u2019s surface as hail,\u201d Iqbal\nsaid, as quoted by detikSumbagsel on Monday (2 November 2026).<\/p>\n<p>He said hail formation is linked to unstable atmospheric conditions.\nThe availability of water vapour and local factors, including West\nLampung\u2019s topography, can also support the growth of intense convective\nclouds.<\/p>\n<p>The phenomenon occurred in Balik Bukit district at 3.21pm local time\non Sunday (1 November). Marble-sized hail fell alongside heavy rain,\nstrong winds and lightning.<\/p>\n<p>West Lampung Military District Commander Lieutenant Colonel Rizky\nKurniawan said at least six areas were affected: Pekon Watas,\nGunungsugih, Padang Dalom, Padang Hanakau, Waymengaku urban village and\nPasar Liwa urban village.<\/p>\n<p>The hail lasted around 10\u201315 minutes. The ice pellets falling in\nyards and on roads startled residents, prompting some to leave their\nhomes to watch the phenomenon.<\/p>",
