        "content": "<p>Gusmao to run for president<\/p>\n<p>SYDNEY, Australia (DPA): Xanana Gusmao will be East Timor's<br>\nfirst president, Interim Timorese Foreign Minister Jose Ramos-<br>\nHorta said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on a visit to Canberra, Ramos-Horta said that even<br>\nthough Gusmao was not a candidate in the August 30 constituent<br>\nassembly elections, he was likely to bow to public pressure and<br>\nput himself forward.<\/p>\n<p>Ramos-Horta said he too, despite not being an official<br>\ncandidate, would accept a position in the new cabinet to be<br>\nformed in September.<\/p>\n<p>The Nobel laureate expressed disappointment with U.S. company<br>\nPhillips Petroleum's decision to shelve a A$1.5-billion (US$780-<br>\nmillion) pipeline to bring natural gas from the Timor Sea to<br>\nDarwin, the Northern Territory capital.<\/p>",
