        "content": "<p>Gus Dur to reply to House censure soon<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Abdurrahman Wahid said on Tuesday that<br>\nhis reply to the House of Representatives (DPR) memorandum of<br>\ncensure for his alleged involvement in two financial scandals<br>\nwould be ready by the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>\"The reply is estimated to be ready around March 25 or 26 or<br>\nby the end of March,\" Abdurrahman told reporters at Bina Graha<br>\npresidential office.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the response was being prepared by Defense<br>\nMinister Mahfud M.D. and \"tomorrow morning (Wednesday), I, along<br>\nwith the Vice President (Megawati Soekarnoputri) and several<br>\nother people will discuss it\" at a breakfast meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Abdurrahman also said his response -- which could either be<br>\nread out in the DPR or simply sent in writing -- would be<br>\ndiscussed in a Cabinet meeting on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on press reports that six House factions had<br>\nalready drafted a second censure memorandum -- without waiting<br>\nfor a reply to the first -- Abdurrahman said: \"Let them.\"<\/p>\n<p>\"It's OK, if they were forbidden (to issue the memorandum),<br>\nthey would still issue it anyway,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, Secretary to the President, Mujib Manan,<br>\nsaid that presidential aides would meet with the DPR secretary-<br>\ngeneral on Wednesday to discuss whether the President would just<br>\nsend a written reply to the DPR memorandum of censure or deliver<br>\nthe answers himself at a hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters, Mujib said Cabinet Secretary Marsilam<br>\nSimanjuntak and presidential spokesman Wimar Witoelar had been<br>\ninstructed by the President to meet with the DPR at 9 a.m. on<br>\nWednesday to discuss the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The DPR censured Abdurrahman on Feb. 1 after a special<br>\ncommittee probing two financial scandals dubbed Buloggate and<br>\nBruneigate found the President may have had a role in them.<\/p>\n<p>Buloggate was the alleged theft of Rp 35 billion (US$3.5<br>\nmillion) from the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), while<br>\nBruneigate was the alleged misuse of a US$2 million donation from<br>\nthe Sultan of Brunei.<\/p>\n<p>Mahfud said on Monday that in the President's response to the<br>\nHouse censure, Abdurrahman plans to deny all allegations of his<br>\ninvolvement in the two scandals.<\/p>\n<p>Mahfud and Coordinating Minister for Political, Social and<br>\nSecurity Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have been assigned to<br>\nprepare the answers for the President.
