        "content": "<p>Gus Dur to attend Jerusalem conference<\/p>\n<p>JERUSALEM: Former President Abdurrahman \"Gus Dur\" Wahid is to <br>\njoin an array of international political and religious figures in <br>\nJerusalem next week for an interfaith peace conference.<\/p>\n<p>Gus Dur and another 3,000 delegates from around the world will <br>\nattend the two-day conference, which starts with an opening <br>\nbanquet at the Sheraton Plaza hotel in the holy city Friday <br>\nnight.<\/p>\n<p>Following the conference, the delegates will join hundreds of <br>\nIsraelis to march for peace through Jerusalem's Old City on <br>\nMonday, after which there will be peace rally at Independence <br>\nPark.<\/p>\n<p>The interfaith conference is sponsored by the Interreligious <br>\nand International Peace Council -- a body set up by Reverend <br>\nDoctor Sun Myung Moon, the leader of the Unification Church, more <br>\ncommonly known as the \"Moonies\".<\/p>\n<p>Wahid, who held office between 1999-2001, was due to arrive in <br>\nIsrael on Friday, the conference organisers told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>The former Indonesian leader, who belongs to Israel's Shimon <br>\nPeres Foundation, is also the former head of the Nahdlatul Ulama, <br>\nIndonesia's biggest moderate Islamic group which counts more than <br>\n40 million members.<\/p>\n<p>Wahid has been criticised for advocating trade and diplomatic <br>\nties with Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim majority state, is <br>\na staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause and has no <br>\ndiplomatic ties with Israel.<\/p>",
