Gus Dur laments loss of cassettes<\/p>\n
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Former president Abdurrahman \"Gus
\nDur\" Wahid says he does not regret being ousted; his only agony
\nis losing his collection of cassettes of Ludwig von Beethoven.<\/p>\n
Abdurrahman was responding to a lecturer of Widya Mandira
\nCatholic University, where the former president addressed a
\npublic lecture.<\/p>\n
\"Why should I be upset? What made me sad is the loss of
\nBeethoven's compositions. There were dozens of cassettes of
\nselected pieces of Beethoven,\" he said, adding that one of his
\npresidential staff had taken the collection.<\/p>\n
Gus Dur, who has impaired vision, has been fond of classical
\nmusic since he was a boy.<\/p>\n
\"I never had any ambition to win the presidency, but the MPR
\nelected me,\" he said, referring to the People's Consultative
\nAssembly, the highest law making body in the country which
\ndismissed him in July last year due to his erratic governing
