Guruh puts Sukarno's power back on stage<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Missing the first president Sukarno's orations?
\nYou can hear his words, along with 17 patriotic songs, at a
\nperformance on Aug. 15 at the Assembly Hall of the Jakarta
\nConvention Center in Senayan, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The performance, which is organized by the Bung Karno
\nFoundation and Kinarya GSP, is to commemorate the birth
\ncentennial of Indonesia's founding father. The centennial
\ncommemoration itself will end in June next year.<\/p>\n
President Megawati Soekarnoputri, one of the foundation's
\nfounders and Sukarno's daughter, is scheduled to attend the
\nperformance.<\/p>\n
Leading soprano Aning Katamsi and tenor Christopher Abimanyu
\nare among the artists who will sing Guruh's patriotic songs.
\nOther performers are husky-voiced singer Reza, noted pop singer
\nand song writer Chrisye and child sensation Sherina, along with
\nthe Erwin Gutawa choir.<\/p>\n
The two-hour performance will be opened with Warsa Wijaya
\nbedoyo (a sacred Javanese dance), choreographed by Guruh himself.<\/p>\n
"The dance will feature modern choreography and will be
\naccompanied by Javanese songs with Indonesian lyrics that will be
\nsung by sinden (Javanese song singer) Nenah," Guruh said in a
\npress conference early this week.<\/p>\n
An archival film of Sukarno declaring Indonesia's independence
\non Aug. 17, 1945 will follow the opening.<\/p>\n
The Erwin Gutawa orchestra will then play patriotic songs to
\nbe sung by the supporting artists mentioned above. Guruh hinted
\nthat his performance this year will still contain cabaret-style
\ndance, a feature of his choreography since his first "Untukmu
\nIndonesiaku" performance back in the 1970s.<\/p>\n
Tickets will be sold at between Rp 100,000 and Rp 300,000.<\/p>\n
All 17 songs will be available on a CD and cassette which will
\nbe officially launched in conjunction with the performance.<\/p>\n
The country's top arrangers -- Erwin, Addie MS, Elfa Secioria,
\nEntik and Andi Riyanto -- have collaborated on the musical
\narrangement in the recording.<\/p>\n
The exclusive and limited edition CD -- each with an
\naccompanying booklet containing photographs of Sukarno and 12
\npostcards -- will be sold for millions of rupiah, but Guruh
\ndeclined to disclose exactly how much. Of the 500 special edition
\nCDs, 100 of them are personally signed by Megawati.<\/p>\n
For public sales, the CD will be priced at Rp 150,000 while
\nthe cassette will be Rp 50,000.<\/p>\n
Sukarno' admirers are recommended to acquire either the CD or
\ncassette, as in each song, there are snippets of his orations.<\/p>\n
Guruh said that proceeds from the tickets, CD and cassette
\nsales will go to the foundation to finance its project, the
\nSukarno Center.<\/p>\n
The center -- which is planned to have a library, museum,
\nmultipurpose hall, an archive and research center -- will be
\nbuild on a 10-hectare site near Jakarta although Guruh remained
