Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Penthul Tembem Creative Gymnastics, which\nshowcases the local wisdom of Gunungkidul Regency, has achieved a\nmilestone by breaking the Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI) record as well\nas a world record for the creative gymnastics category with the largest\nnumber of female participants.<\/p>\n
Senior MURI Representative Ari Andriani in Gunungkidul said on Friday\nthat the achievement constitutes a new record, as it combines sport with\ndistinctive local cultural art that has never been seen before.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis breaks the record for creative gymnastics with the most female\nparticipants,\u201d said Ari.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause it promotes local wisdom, the record reaches the national\nlevel,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Ari went on to say that the record has also been established as a\nworld record, because the number of women taking part in the Penthul\nTembem Creative Gymnastics is the largest ever. \u201cSo, this has the most\nparticipants anywhere in the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
MURI recorded a total of 1,588 female participants in the activity,\ndrawn from 18 kapanewon (districts) across Gunungkidul Regency,\ncomprising members of the Indonesian Women\u2019s Sports Association\n(Perwosi), members of the general public, and policewomen (Polwan).<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were 1,588 participants from 18 kapanewon, consisting of\nresidents, Perwosi Gunungkidul members, and Polwan officers,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Ari explained that MURI\u2019s assessment was based on quantitative\naspects, namely the number of participants, rather than the quality of\nthe performance, since judging artistic elements would be\nsubjective.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Gunungkidul Regent Endah Subekti Kuntariningsih said the\n1,588 participants comprised 102 members of Perwosi Gunungkidul Regency,\n900 Perwosi members from the 18 kapanewon, 504 members of the Indonesian\nKindergarten Teachers Association (IGTKI) and the Indonesian Early\nChildhood Educators Association (Himpaudi), 24 Polwan personnel from the\nGunungkidul Police Resort, 30 members of the Bobung Kalurahan\nCommunity\/Bobung Volunteers, and 14 members of Omah Trengguli.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis creative gymnastics is a manifestation of the sport tourism\nstrategy currently being promoted in Gunungkidul,\u201d said Endah.<\/p>\n
She explained that the uniqueness of the Penthul Tembem Creative\nGymnastics lies in the use of masks depicting the white Penthul\ncharacter and the black Tembem character, which are rich in\nphilosophical meaning and are packaged into fitness gymnastics movements\nwithout abandoning traditional cultural values.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Penthul Tembem characters were chosen because they symbolise\ncheerfulness and simplicity, which are then creatively packaged into\nfitness gymnastics without leaving behind traditional values,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Endah said the success proves that Gunungkidul\u2019s local culture is\ncapable of performing on the national and even world stage through\ninnovation that blends art, sport, and cultural preservation.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday Gunungkidul has proven that with its authentic culture and\nlocal wisdom, it can break national, and even world, records,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Gunungkidul Regency Government also received a Record of Creation\nCertificate for the Penthul Tembem Mask from the Yogyakarta Special\nRegion Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, as a\nform of copyright protection for the cultural work.<\/p>\n
