A couple in Ngloro, Saptosari, Gunungkidul, were caught cheating.\nResidents who caught them imposed an unusual punishment: they were\nsanctioned to buy building materials for the neighbourhood road\nconstruction.<\/p>\n
Cheating During Residents\u2019 Meeting<\/p>\n
Jogoboyo (Security Section) of Ngloro Sub-district, Aris Setyawan,\nrevealed that it began when residents held a neighbourhood meeting at\nthe end of April. At that time, one of the meeting participants, a man\nwith initials P, left the location.<\/p>\n
\u201cTen minutes later, a woman with initials S followed him out. S is\nalready married,\u201d he said when contacted by reporters on Monday\n(4\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
Residents grew suspicious because the two did not immediately return\nto the meeting room. So, the community decided to search for P and\nS.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen searched at his house, P was not there, then residents\ncontinued the search to S\u2019s house and found them there,\u201d said Aris.<\/p>\n
Residents then waited for the two to come out of the house. After\nwaiting quite a while, the pair emerged from S\u2019s house.<\/p>\n
\u201cResidents waited for up to an hour, and finally the two came out of\nthe house,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, residents secured the pair and brought them to the\nlocal neighbourhood head\u2019s house. As a result, the two admitted to\nhaving an illicit relationship.<\/p>\n
Sanctioned to Buy Sand and Cement<\/p>\n
Based on deliberations, Aris explained, residents agreed to impose a\npunishment where the pair must buy a quantity of sand and cement. The\nmaterials were used to build the neighbourhood road.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinally, after deliberations, residents agreed to impose a social\nsanction of 10 truckloads of sand and 200 sacks of cement for the\nneighbourhood road construction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Aris, the sanction is intended to create a deterrent\neffect for the pair. Additionally, to keep the atmosphere conducive and\nprevent the issue from dragging on.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe main purpose of the agreement is to create a deterrent effect\nwhile maintaining environmental harmony. The important thing is that\nresidents remain harmonious, the problem is resolved, and it does not\ndrag on,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Reasons Why the Cheating Couple Was Sanctioned to Buy Materials for\nRoad Building<\/p>\n
Acting Head of Karangnongko Hamlet, Mukardi, stated that he was\npresent at the deliberations. He explained why the couple was fined to\nbuy cement and sand.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was only bridging to prevent any unrest. We also suggested that\nthe sanction should not be too heavy if possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Therefore, residents agreed that the cheating couple must build the\nneighbourhood road. According to him, all of this is to provide a\ndeterrent effect and prevent similar incidents from recurring.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the sanction issue, it\u2019s a community agreement, and the core is\nto give a deterrent effect so that such incidents do not happen again,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Mukardi denied that the sanction was opportunistic. Because the road\nin the couple\u2019s neighbourhood is indeed badly damaged.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe road in that neighbourhood is severely damaged,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mukardi stated that the couple has carried out the sanction from the\nresidents. Even the work has started since Sunday (3\/5).<\/p>\n
