Gun used to shoot guard identified<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police said yesterday that the gun used in the
\nshooting of a security guard at a Bank Internasional Indonesia
\n(BII) branch office in South Jakarta on Tuesday evening was a
\nhigh-powered 9-mm FN pistol.<\/p>\n
Records indicate that only members of the Army, Air Force and
\nNavy are authorized to use that gun in Indonesia. However, police
\ndeclined to confirm yesterday that this is the case.<\/p>\n
City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna said the
\nidentification of the gun by the National Police Forensic
\nLaboratory was based on the three bullets found at the scene and
\ntwo others found in the body of the bank's security officer.<\/p>\n
Police also found a cartridge case at the scene, Iman said.<\/p>\n
\"However, the identity of the single suspect and the motive
\nbehind the shooting remains unclear,\" the spokesman said.<\/p>\n
Police said nothing was stolen from the bank.<\/p>\n
Chief of the South Jakarta Police Precinct Lt. Col. SY Wenas
\nsaid an unidentified man entered the BII Bintaro Permai branch
\noffice on Jl. Veteran just after the last employee left the
\noffice at 7:10 p.m. after working overtime.<\/p>\n
\"Suddenly, a man came in quickly and refused to be stopped by
\nthe on-duty security guard,\" Wenas told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
After a heated argument, the man threatened to shoot the
\nguard, identified as Sudirman Aden, 28.<\/p>\n
However, Sudirman decided not to allow him to get through and
\ntried to handcuff the intruder.<\/p>\n
The man then shot Sudirman in the thigh, presumably to show
\nhim that he was serious about his threat.<\/p>\n
The guard screamed loudly, calling for help.<\/p>\n
In response, the intruder shot the security guard again, this
\ntime in the chest, Wenas said. He said this account had been
\nprovided to him by the injured guard himself, who is currently
\nbeing treated for the gunshot wounds at the Pertamina hospital.<\/p>\n
The intruder then fired several more shots at random, hitting
\nthe banks interior walls of thick glass as well as other surfaces
\nand leaving the room full of debris. He then fled the scene,
\nreportedly running to the nearby Tanah Kusir public cemetery.<\/p>\n
While a number of people witnessed the events, none of them
\ngave chase to the fleeing intruder.<\/p>\n
At least four witnesses have been questioned by police in
\ntheir investigation so far. They are Makmur, a bank security
\nguard who was to have relieved Sudirman for the evening shift;
\nSubandi, a cigarette seller; Effendy, a driver; and Hamzah, a
\nsecurity guard of a nearby department store.<\/p>\n
\"Everything is still under investigation,\" a spokesman said.
