Guitarist, soprano make music<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A rare performance by leading soprano Aning
\nKatamsi Asmoro and rising guitarist Sudirman Leman was held at
\nBentara Budaya in Central Jakarta on Friday night.<\/p>\n
The 250 people who filled the venue were witness to a
\nbeautiful and entertaining performance. The show, organized by
\nYayasan Musik Internasional and Bentara Budaya, was part of the
\nYayasan's Art Song Series, whose mission is to introduce this
\ntype of music to a wider Indonesian audience.<\/p>\n
Sudirman graduated from the University of Music and Dramatic
\nArts in Graz, Austria, in June last year. He took part in
\nseveral concerts and attended summer courses as well as
\ncompetitions during his stay in Europe.<\/p>\n
His mastery of the guitar and his appreciation of music
\nclearly show he is a star performer in the making.<\/p>\n
Dirman accompanied Aning on the guitar, and the duo opened
\nwith El Que Quisiera Amando (Who Wants to Love), a piece composed
\nby Fernando Sor (1780-1839).<\/p>\n
Each of the pieces performed by Dirman and Aning was received
\nwith warm applause from the audience.<\/p>\n
Aning put on a sterling vocal performance that highlighted her
\ntalent and her strength, as she did not stop singing throughout
\nthe first half of the show except for an occasional sip of water.<\/p>\n
Her effortless and beautiful performance included pieces by
\nFederico Garcia Lorca, Joaquin Rodrigo, Bejamin Britten and
\nMatyas Seiber, the latter two 20th century composers.(hbk)<\/p>",
