\ncouldn't hide her disappointment upon seeing that the Borobudur
\nInter-Continental Hotel's Flores room -- where a one-day seminar
\non Indonesian traditional woven cloths was held on Thursday --
\nwas almost empty. Not more than 50 people occupied the room which
\nhas a seating capacity of 500.<\/p>\n
Koos, who is also general manager of the Rumah Indonesia
\ntraditional handicraft center in South Jakarta, complained that
\nmany Indonesians currently do not appreciate their own culture.
\n\"Now, the traditional woven cloth industry is dying. Other
\ncountries' traditional cloths like Thai silk are starting to
\nenter our market. And if we want to study our own traditional
\ntextiles, we have to go abroad.\"<\/p>\n
She said the seminar could have offered a good occasion where
\ngovernment officials could speak directly with traditional
\nweavers.<\/p>\n
However, neither the minister of industry nor the minister of
\ncooperatives, who were scheduled to give talks, showed up at the
