Guess What? Goenawan Mohamad<\/p>\n
The Jakarta State Administrative Court came alive on Thursday
\nwhen Goenawan Mohamad, the former Chief Editor of the banned
\nTempo newsweekly, was called as a witness in the case of former
\nTempo employees against the Minister of Information Harmoko for
\nrevoking the magazine's publishing license.<\/p>\n
The packed courtroom was astonished by his clear and firm
\nanswers to questions posed by the judges, the employees' lawyers
\nand Harmoko's lawyers.<\/p>\n
When a lawyer for the minister asked him if Tempo had enough
\nmoney to compensate its employees in October, four months after
\nthe magazine had been closed, he quickly responded, \"No sir, we
\ndid not have enough money to pay our employees.\"<\/p>\n
\"You are not supposed to continue asking that question,\" he
\nexplained to Soeryadi W.S., one of Harmoko's lawyers, repeating
\nChief Judge Benjamin Mangkoedilaga's order that the lawyer not
\nask questions out of context.<\/p>\n
Later, he cried while relating the story of one reporter who
\nwas deeply upset after losing his job at the magazine.<\/p>\n
Goenawan Mohamad also acted the part of a prudent politician
\nwhen he helped the presiding judge calm down the noisy court.<\/p>\n
\"Silent please!\" he demanded, raising his right hand towards
