Guess What? Ditta Miranda<\/p>\n
Professional dancer Ditta Miranda trod the road of hard knocks
\nfor nine long years before she stepped onto Gedung Kesenian
\nJakarta's stage for a fascinating performance with her German
\ndance company, Bremer Tanztheater.<\/p>\n
By all accounts, it was worth the wait.<\/p>\n
\"Ditta always knew she wanted to be a dancer,\" said Farida
\nOetojo, a former dancer and now well-known ballet instructor.<\/p>\n
Ditta, 32, studied dance at Farida's Sumber Cipta dance group
\nfor 12 years, before continuing to Germany on a dance scholarship
\nfrom the Goethe Institute. She resides in Germany.<\/p>\n
\"It was really hard from the beginning. Even Farida thought
\nthat I did not have the ideal figure for a dancer,\" Ditta told
\nThe Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Great willpower won over and she finally danced at Gedung
\nKesenian Jakarta two weeks ago. \"She has been working real hard,\"
\nsaid Farida.<\/p>\n
Living abroad for the past nine years has not swayed how Ditta
\nviews her faith. Luck, she said, had also helped her develop her
\nsuccessful dance career.<\/p>\n
\"I chose Germany because education there is cheaper than that
\nin America. Farida's son had already studied there when I moved
\nto Germany,\" said Ditta.<\/p>\n
After she graduated from Folkwang School in Essen in 1994,
\nshe joined the dance company of Bausch, a renowned choreographer
\nin Europe. A year later, she became a member of Bremer
\nTanztheater led by Susanne Linke.<\/p>\n
Ditta is reluctant to return permanently to her homeland
\nbecause she believes the environment is not conducive to
\ndeveloping her talent.<\/p>\n
\"Last year, I went to a dance festival in the playhouse.
\nAlthough the performance was wonderful, many of the dancers came
\nto practice sessions late. Many dancers here still cannot devote
\nthemselves to dance.\"<\/p>\n
Even though she stole the show in Jakarta, Ditta admitted she
\nhad butterflies for several days before the performance.<\/p>\n
\"I am really surprised at the response from the audience. It
\nwas great,\" she said. (46)<\/p>",
