GSM-XL bills can be paid at BCA ATMs<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Excelcomindo Pratama, which operates the GSM-
\nXL cellular system, signed an agreement with Bank Central Asia
\n(BCA) yesterday that allows its customers to pay their bills at
\nthe banks' Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs).<\/p>\n
Excelcomindo's president Y.W. Junardy said, after signing the
\nagreement with BCA's director Andibuana Wangsadjaja, that the
\nservice became effective here yesterday following a series of
\ntrial operations.<\/p>\n
"This is one of our efforts to improve services to our users,"
\nJunardy said.<\/p>\n
Andi said BCA operated about 1,500 ATMs nationwide, more than
\nhalf in Greater Jakarta.<\/p>\n
"Users will have the chance to check their bills before paying
\nthrough ATMs. This is the advantage over credit card direct
\ndebit," he said.<\/p>\n
He said state-owned PT Telkom and other cellular phone
\noperators had also signed similar agreements with BCA allowing
\nsubscribers to pay their bills through BCA's ATMs.<\/p>\n
ATMs are open 24 hours a day so people will not necessarily
\nhave to queue to pay. But people still complained that this
\nsystem of payment could cause double charges, analysts said.<\/p>\n
Excelcomindo is the youngest of Indonesia's three global
\nsystem for mobile communications (GSM) operators. The others are
\nPT Telkomsel and PT Satelindo. Excelcomindo is owned by Nynex
\nCorp of the United States, Mitsui of Japan, the Asian
\nInfrastructure Fund and Indonesia's PT Telekomindo Prima Bhakti.<\/p>\n
Excelcomindo, which operates in Greater Jakarta, West Java,
\nCentral Java, East Java, Bali and Lombok, has some 75,000
\ncustomers. The company began operating in late 1996 and
\nplans to enter Medan, North Sumatra, in September. (icn)<\/p>",
