Growth triangle talks in Batam<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Some 300 executives from the region are expected
\nto take part on Wednesday in a meeting on the industrial island
\nof Batam to promote cooperation in the context of the Indonesia-
\nMalaysia-Singapore Growth Triangle (IMS-GT).<\/p>\n
Participants will come from the three countries as well as
\nfrom Hong Kong and Brunei, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said
\non Monday.<\/p>\n
Minister of Industry and Trade Rahardi Ramelan and State
\nMinister of Investment\/chairman of The Investment Coordinating
\nBoard (BKPM) Marzuki Usman will be the main speakers.<\/p>\n
Governors from West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Bengkulu, South
\nSumatra, Lampung and West Kalimantan, and leaders of trade
\norganizations have also been invited to the event.<\/p>\n
The meeting at Novotel Hotel is jointly sponsored by the
\nministry's Directorate General of Foreign Economic Relations and
\nthe Batam Island Development Authority.<\/p>\n
The agenda is expected to cover business opportunities in
\ntrade, banking and tourism in Indonesia, the ministry said.<\/p>\n
The IMS-GT is one of several existing growth triangle
\narrangements among Southeast Asian countries designed to promote
\ncloser business cooperation between neighboring territories and
