Group wants action against corruptions<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Dozens of activists from several organizations,
\nincluding Humanika, Pijar and Moslem Students Organization (HMI),
\ndemanded the government seize corruptors' wealth in a protest in
\nfront of the Attorney General's Office on Friday.<\/p>\n
\"The (current) government faces financial difficulties and is
\nforced to lift subsidies from cooking oil and flour, which have
\ncaused many people to suffer. Why don't we just seize the
\ncorruptors' wealth and allocate it for the interest of all,\"
\ncoordinator of the group Andrianto said outside the compound in
\nSouth Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The group also demanded complete investigations of bankers
\nallegedly involved in credit scams which caused the government to
\nsuffer estimated losses of Rp 150 trillion.<\/p>\n
Officials of the Attorney General's Office prevented the
\nprotesters from entering the compound. They were allowed to hold
\na free-speech forum in front of the office's gate.<\/p>\n
The one-hour protest continued with a march to the House of
\nRepresentatives in Central Jakarta, about 10 kilometers away.<\/p>\n
Although many pedestrians along busy Jl. Jend. Sudirman
\nwatched the marchers, there was no traffic congestion because
\npolice had cleared the slow lane for the protesters.<\/p>\n
When the demonstrators arrived at the House of
\nRepresentatives' compound, they stood in front of the House's
\ngate under the watchful eyes of police.<\/p>\n
They unfurled banners bearing caricatures of former president
\nSoeharto and bankers.<\/p>\n
\"We're not planning to meet any House members, but we hope
\nthat during our street rally people will read and hear our
\nmessages that our reform struggle has not finished yet,\"
