Gresik Regent Fandi Akhmad Yani has emphasised that Corporate Social\nResponsibility (CSR) is not merely a charitable activity but a social\nobligation that businesses must fulfil in accordance with legal\nprovisions.<\/p>\n
This statement was made while opening the CSR SIGAP (Social Industry\nMovement for Women\u2019s Empowerment and Child Protection) Advocacy and\nSocialisation event at the Argolengis Meeting Room, Gresik Regent\u2019s\nOffice, on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cCSR is not charity, not an act of pity. CSR is a social\nresponsibility regulated by law. This perspective must be aligned,\u201d\nRegent Yani asserted firmly.<\/p>\n
He stressed that regional development cannot rely solely on the\ngovernment. As a district with significant industrial strength, Gresik\nRegency requires active collaboration with the business world to ensure\ndevelopment programmes run optimally and sustainably.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government cannot operate alone. There must be support from\nindustry. CSR programmes must align with central and regional government\nprogrammes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Regent Yani encouraged focusing CSR implementation on\nstrategic issues that directly impact society, such as waste\nmanagement\u2014particularly plastic waste\u2014and the protection of women and\nchildren. He also highlighted various ongoing social problems, from\ndomestic violence (KDRT), school dropouts, to the challenges faced by\nmigrant workers\u2019 families.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese social problems are real. There are victims of domestic\nviolence, children not attending school, and children of migrant workers\nat risk of lacking clear identity. This requires collective attention,\u201d\nhe explained.<\/p>\n
Regarding the CSR implementation mechanism, Regent Yani clarified\nthat the regional government does not accept assistance in the form of\ncash or transfers to the regional treasury. Business contributions are\ndirected towards tangible programmes that can be directly felt by the\ncommunity through collaboration and clear role-sharing.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we need are the programmes. It can be through collaboration,\nrole-sharing, and joint monitoring,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Head of the Women\u2019s Empowerment, Child Protection, and\nPopulation Control Office (Dinas KBPPPA) of Gresik Regency, Titik\nErnawati, stated that the event aims to strengthen businesses\u2019\nunderstanding of women\u2019s and children\u2019s protection issues, while\nencouraging gender-responsive and child-friendly CSR implementation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis event also serves as a space to build commitments and\ncross-sector synergies so that protection efforts can run sustainably,\u201d\nshe said.<\/p>\n
The event, attended by 35 participants, involved business entities,\nregional apparatus, community institutions, children\u2019s forums, and other\nrelated partners. Through this forum, it is hoped that businesses will\nnot only participate symbolically but will take active and measurable\nroles in implementing CSR SIGAP.<\/p>\n
Concluding his remarks, Regent Yani emphasised the importance of\ncollaboration in creating inclusive and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
