        "content": "<p>REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GRESIK \u2013 The Gresik Customs Office has destroyed\n8.59 million illegal cigarettes and 203.5 litres of illegal ethyl\nalcohol-containing beverages (MMEA). The destruction was carried out at\nthe incinerator owned by PT Tri Surya Plastik in Malang Regency on\nThursday (30\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the Gresik Customs Office, Asep Munandar, revealed that\nthe destroyed goods were the result of excise enforcement actions and\nhad the status of state-owned goods (BMMN).<\/p>\n<p>The destruction was performed by burning in an incinerator machine to\neliminate the physical form and utility of the items, ensuring they\ncannot be reused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is aimed at protecting the public from the dangers of illegal\nand\/or hazardous goods, securing state revenue, and creating a healthy\ntrading environment,\u201d Asep stated in a press release on Tuesday\n(5\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Asep detailed that the destroyed items included 8,594,288 illegal\ncigarettes, comprising 7,651,264 white machine-made cigarettes (SPM) and\n942,976 machine-made clove cigarettes (SKM), as well as 203.5 litres of\nillegal MMEA.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the total value of the destroyed goods is estimated\nat Rp12.7 billion, with potential state losses averted amounting to\nRp10.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis achievement results from continuous intensive supervision\nconducted from November 2025 to February 2026. In addition to serving as\naccountability for managing state-owned goods, this activity educates\nthe public on recognising illegal cigarettes and preventing their\ncirculation,\u201d Asep said.<\/p>\n<p>Member of Commission XI of the House of Representatives on finance\nand fiscal matters, Thoriq Majiddanor, assessed that the Gresik Customs\nOffice\u2019s performance reflects the effectiveness of fiscal oversight\nfunctions, directly impacting the protection of state revenue.<\/p>\n<p>He also emphasised the importance of ongoing synergy between law\nenforcement agencies, local government, and public participation to\nnarrow the operational space for illegal businesses.<\/p>\n<p>This destruction implements a comprehensive regulatory framework,\nfrom Law No.\u00a011 of 1995 as amended by Law No.\u00a039 of 2007 on Excise, to\nvarious derivative regulations governing the management of state-owned\ngoods from customs and excise enforcement actions.<\/p>\n<p>This demonstrates that every step taken is not only results-oriented\nbut also upholds the principles of legal certainty and accountable\ngovernance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, we will continue to strengthen synergy with law\nenforcement agencies and other stakeholders to ensure optimal\nsupervision.
