        "content": "<p>PT PLN states that green transmission is the link between areas rich\nin renewable energy and regions that need electricity supply. Vice\nPresident of Transmission and Distribution Technology and Engineering at\nPLN, Buyung, said green transmission is seen as an important part of the\ntransformation of the national electricity system. \u201cThis green\ntransmission supports connecting energy from areas with high renewable\nenergy potential to load centres,\u201d he said in a statement in Jakarta on\nFriday. According to him, the challenge of the energy transition does\nnot stop at building physical networks; the electricity system must also\nbe able to handle the characteristics of renewable energy, which differ\nfrom conventional power plants. Solar and wind energy, for example, are\nintermittent because they depend on natural conditions. \u201cRenewable\nenergy is intermittent. Sometimes it is not always available, so the\nchallenge is how we control the system so that the public continues to\nreceive electricity continuously,\u201d he said. Regarding this, Buyung\nstated that an engineering roadmap is important as a guide for PLN to\nformulate future technology, innovation, and transmission system\nstrengthening directions. Future grid systems must be more flexible, he\ncontinued, and digitalisation can no longer be seen as an addition but\nas a primary necessity so that the electricity system can read load\nchanges, manage supply variations, and respond to the dynamics of\nrenewable energy. \u201cWe cannot just rely on past systems, because the\nfuture electricity system must be more controllable and ready to move\ntowards a smart grid,\u201d he said. Buyung referred to the Indonesia\nSupergrid as a long-term vision that requires a strong master plan. With\na more connected system, the energy potential on large islands such as\nKalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, and Sumatera can be utilised more\noptimally. \u201cThe energy potential on large islands must provide maximum\nbenefit for all of Indonesia, especially load centres like Java and\nSumatera,\u201d Buyung said. However, he continued, its realisation is not\nsimple and requires technical studies, financing, regulation,\ntechnological readiness, and cross-institutional coordination. PLN\ncannot carry out this transformation alone. Senior Electricity Inspector\nNanda Avianto Wicaksono stated that the development of green\ntransmission must be ensured to be not only fast but also safe,\nreliable, and economical, making stakeholder synchronisation crucial.\n\u201cFrom a regulatory perspective, the first step is how to connect all\nstakeholders, whether business entities, government agencies, academics,\nor other development institutions,\u201d he said during a dissemination\nseminar titled \u2018Engineering Development Roadmap for Green Transmission\nin Supporting Accelerated Renewable Energy Development\u2019. He noted that\nthe business structure of the electricity sector will become\nincreasingly complex as new technologies enter the system. Therefore,\nthe regulatory framework must be able to adapt without ignoring the\nprinciples of safety and reliability. However, he reminded that the\neconomic aspect must not be neglected. Transmission infrastructure\nrequires large investments. If there is no economic feasibility,\nprojects will struggle to proceed even if they are technically\nnecessary. The Head of the Engineering Roadmap Study Team for Green\nTransmission, Professor Dermawan Wibisono, added that Indonesia cannot\nsimply set a broad direction for the energy transition and then let the\nprocess run without a detailed map. He stated that a roadmap is needed\nso that targets do not just remain statements but turn into actionable\nwork steps. Dermawan stressed that the government must immediately\nformulate a human resource development scenario, as Indonesia often\ndeclares targets but has not sufficiently prepared the people who will\nexecute them.<\/p>",
