Green NGO to hold int'l workshop<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Non-governmental organization Mitra Emisi Bersih
\n(MEB), which campaigns for reduced use of motorized vehicles in
\norder to reduce exhaust emissions in the city, will stage an
\ninternational workshop and environment exhibition at Jakarta
\nConvention Center, Senayan, Central Jakarta, from Oct. 7 through
\nOct. 9.<\/p>\n
The committee will invite experts, mostly from Asian
\ncountries, including India, to become speakers at the three-day
\nworkshop.<\/p>\n
\"The workshop will also feature speakers from Germany, Japan,
\nAustralia and the United States,\" said Paul Butar Butar of MEB,
\nwho is also a senior executive of the Jakarta clean air project
\nSwisscontact.<\/p>\n
The objectives of the workshop and exhibition, Paul said, were
\nto provide examples from other countries on how to deal with air
\npollution and achieve a reduction in vehicle exhaust emissions.<\/p>\n
MEB will also launch a campaign to persuade the public not to
\nuse motorized vehicles on Car-free Day on Sept. 21, in order to
\nreduce air pollution.<\/p>\n
Last year, the program failed to gain much support from the
\npublic due a lack of advance publicity. -- JP<\/p>",
