Green campaign<\/p>\n
I was surprised to read the article on page 7 entitled
\nActivists attack green campaign as 'lip service' (The Jakarta
\nPost, April 29, 1996).<\/p>\n
As far as I know, the green consumerism campaign is meant to
\nbe environmentally friendly. However, the reverse has occurred.
\nIt was stressed in the discussion that entrepreneurs and
\nindustries should serve as a moral strength to realize the green
\nconsumerism ideal.<\/p>\n
As an example, PT Aqua Golden Mississippi has donated Rp 800
\nmillion to the Dana Mitra Lingkungan foundation. This Aqua
\nenvironmental program is not a mere \"Public Relations Exercise\".<\/p>\n
However, strangely enough, this noble act of that company has
\nbeen interpreted in such a biased way that the result could be
\nperceived as an attack on the Aqua enterprise. Not to mention the
\nfact that a number of senior staff members of the company were
\npresent on that occasion.<\/p>\n
H. Hartono, head of the Aqua Concerns Program, inquired about
\nthe criteria for perfect environmental friendliness. In that
\ncontext I suggested that Aqua should in due course try to obtain
\nthe ISO Certificate 14000, which contains the aspect of life
\ncycle analysis.<\/p>\n
Aqua Consumers' Claim Department's Dr. Christanto even added
\nthat a study has yet to be conducted on the impact of the
\nozonization process on human beings.<\/p>\n
So, how could such an apparent attack against Aqua be
\njustified, noting that it was Aqua that sponsored the discussion?<\/p>\n
