GP Ansor chief dies in car accident<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Muhammad Iqbal Assegaff, chairman of the six-
\nmillion-strong Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor), died from
\ninjuries suffered in a car accident on the Cawang-Tanjung Priok
\ntoll road on Saturday.<\/p>\n
He was 41.<\/p>\n
His wife, Siti Rachmah, 34, sustained a broken right
\ncollarbone during the afternoon accident.<\/p>\n
She was rushed to nearby Islamic Hospital and admitted with
\nher husband, according to nurses.<\/p>\n
\"She is resting now. She is totally conscious and fine,\" one
\nof the nurses at the hospital told The Jakarta Post on Saturday
\nnight.<\/p>\n
GP Ansor is a youth branch of the 30-million-strong Nahdlatul
\nUlama Muslim organization.<\/p>\n
According to a North Jakarta traffic policeman, the accident
\nat Km 12,600 on the toll road apparently occurred when Iqbal lost
\ncontrol of his BMW 320 sedan.<\/p>\n
\"The BMW sedan was speeding and the driver seemed to have lost
\ncontrol when the accident happened,\" the official, who asked for
\nanonymity, told the Post.<\/p>\n
The car careened over road dividers, spun into the opposite
\nlane and hit an oncoming truck, he added.<\/p>\n
Iqbal's car was a 1996 model bearing license plate B 63 RI, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The official said the accident was still under investigation.<\/p>\n
Iqbal was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after the accident
\nat the hospital in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
His body underwent an autopsy at Cipto Mangunkusumo General
\nHospital before it was transported to his residence in the Siaga
\nBaru housing complex in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Ade, Iqbal's sister, said the couple had five children --
\nDicky, Dina, Sarah, Dinda and Arfah.<\/p>\n
\"I hope all of the children will be fine,\" Ade told the Post.
\n\"I guess the shock will hit them later.\"<\/p>\n
Several important officials, including Minister of Youth
\nAffairs and Sports Agung Leksono, expressed their condolences to
\nIqbal's family.<\/p>\n
Iqbal, appointed GP Ansor chairman for the 1995 to 2000
\nperiod, was born in North Maluku on Oct. 12, 1957.<\/p>\n
A 1986 graduate of the School of Veterinarian Science at
\nBogor Institute of Agriculture, Iqbal continually stressed the
\npressing need of the government to help the country's small and
\nmedium-scale enterprises.<\/p>\n
He headed the Indonesian Muslim University Student Association
