Govt urged to help terror suspect<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Hundreds of students and Muslim youths staged a
\ndemonstration in front of the South Sulawesi provincial
\nlegislature building, demanding the government to take concrete
\naction to help release Agus Dwikarna who has been arrested in the
\nPhilippines for what they claimed were groundless charges.<\/p>\n
The demonstrators said they were disappointed with President
\nMegawati Soekarnoputri for taking no action to free Agus who they
\nsaid had no faults but was arrested by Philippine authorities.<\/p>\n
They demanded that the government freeze Indonesian ties with
\nthe Philippines if Agus was punished by the Philippine court on
\nJuly 12, 2002.<\/p>\n
The also called on South Sulawesi Governor HZB Palaguna and
\nthe provincial legislature leadership to leave for Manila to
\nlobby the Philippine government to show that they were committed
\nto providing protection for the Indonesian citizen.<\/p>\n
Agus along with other two Indonesians were arrested in the
\nPhilippines in March for the illegal possession of explosive
\nmaterials as they were boarding a flight and for not having
\nproper immigration documents. Agus' two colleagues have already
\nbeen released while Agus is also facing charges of alleged
\ninvolvement in the bombing of the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta
