        "content": "<p>Govt urged to carry on autonomy plans<\/p>\n<p>BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: South Kalimantan Governor<br>\nSjachriel Darham has called on the new government to follow up on<br>\nthe ongoing implementation of regional autonomy despite the<br>\nabsence of a specific minister to handle decentralization.<\/p>\n<p>\"Despite the absence of a minister on autonomy affairs, we<br>\nhope the government will not halt the implementation of regional<br>\nautonomy and may even grant greater authority to the provinces,\"<br>\nAntara quoted him as saying here on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He said regional autonomy affairs could be handled by the<br>\nMinistry of Home Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>President Megawati Soekarnoputri didn't appoint a minister to<br>\nsolely handle regional autonomy, for reasons that are so far<br>\nunclear. Previously, regional autonomy affairs were handled by a<br>\nstate minister, which was once dealt with by the Ministry of Home<br>\nAffairs.<\/p>\n<p>Sjachriel also said he was optimistic that the newly appointed<br>\nMinister of Home Affairs Hari Sabarno would be able to carry out<br>\nthe autonomy program despite his military background.<\/p>",
