        "content": "<p>Govt to update SNI standards<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Office of the State Minister for Research and<br>\nTechnology plans to facilitate the overhaul of national standards<br>\nestablished under the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) as many<br>\nof them have become outdated.<\/p>\n<p>\"Many standards are not compatible any more with the current<br>\nsituation,\" said the head of the standardization office, Rudiama<br>\nSugama.<\/p>\n<p>For example, about 80 percent of some 600 product standards on<br>\nagriculture were now obsolete. Altogether, 60 percent of all<br>\nstandards set out under the SNI could not be used anymore, he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>To replace those outdated standards, Rudiama said his Office<br>\nwould introduce a program, to be called the Indonesian National<br>\nStandard Initiative (ISNI), for industrial users in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>To encourage standardization of products by small and medium<br>\nenterprises, Rudiama said the government would provide financial<br>\nincentives for them to join the ISNI. --Antara<\/p>",
