Govt to open development forum<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State Minister for Development Planning
\nGinandjar Kartasasmita said yesterday that the government will
\nopen a consultation forum here early next month to discuss the
\nactual needs of development in the country.<\/p>\n
Ginandjar, also the chairman of the National Development
\nPlanning Board, said that the input from the forum will be used
\nto streamline the existing development plans so that development
\nprojects will match the actual needs of the people.<\/p>\n
\"The idea is how to match the development plans to the
\npeople's needs and how to coordinate the development efforts in
\nvillages and at the national level more effectively,\" he
\nannounced after reporting the planned opening of the forum to
\nPresident Soeharto.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that development projects in rural areas often
\ndo not match the people's actual needs since they are planned
\nwithout consulting the local people.<\/p>\n
Ginandjar said the forum will discuss input from consultation
\nforums at the provincial level and discuss recommendations from
\nsimilar consultation forums in districts.<\/p>\n
\"The outcome of the national forum will then be added to the
\nexisting development plans,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Ginandjar also said that he would lead the Indonesian
\ndelegation to the 10th meeting of the Organization of Islamic
\nConference in Istanbul, Turkey.<\/p>\n
He said the Turkish meeting will discuss an action plan to
\npromote economic cooperation among member countries.(hen)<\/p>",
