        "content": "<p>Govt to create computer programs in Indonesian<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The State Ministry for Research and Technology<br>\nsaid it was collaborating with several information technology<br>\n(IT) leaders to develop Indonesian-language computer programs as<br>\npart of its effort to promote the use of computers in the<br>\ncountry.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Minister Dicky Munaf said on Wednesday that the<br>\nambitious project was aimed at breaking language barriers for<br>\nlocal people and, as such, encouraging more people to use<br>\ncomputers.<\/p>\n<p>\"The fact that computer programs are mostly in English has<br>\noften discouraged many beginners from starting to use computers.<br>\nThey are afraid of making mistakes,\" he was quoted as saying by<br>\nAntara.<\/p>\n<p>The IT companies involved in the project include international<br>\nfirms IBM, Linux, Hewlett Packard and local firm Astra Graphia.<\/p>\n<p>Dicky said the ministry had established three joint task<br>\nforces to realize the project.<\/p>\n<p>One task force has been assigned to translate computer<br>\nterminology from English into Indonesian, while the other two<br>\nhave been tasked with developing a computer program in Indonesian<br>\nand to then promote and implement the program among the public.<\/p>\n<p>Each task force consists of language and IT experts.<\/p>\n<p>\"In the beginning, the translation task force will do their<br>\njob of translating computer commands into Indonesian, including<br>\nthe 'help' function and other functions available on the computer<br>\nkeyboard,\" he said, adding that the translation task force was<br>\nexpected to complete their assignment by the end of June.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the project was expected to develop a Web<br>\nTranslation Engine, but he did not provide details on the engine.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dicky, there are currently 2.5 million active<br>\ncomputer users in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that at least 15 countries have applied their own<br>\nnational languages to computer programs. The countries include<br>\nGermany, Japan, France, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Portugal, the<br>\nNetherlands, China, Denmark, Russia, South Korea and Poland. (03)<\/p>",
