Govt support needed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indigenous entrepreneurs will hold a two-day
\nnational workshop in Semarang, Central Java, this week at which,
\nthey say, they will ask the government to support their efforts
\nto enlarge their role in Indonesia's economic development.<\/p>\n
\"Our role in the country's private sector businesses was
\nrecorded at only 35 percent in 1991 and we want the government,
\nwith its good will, to support our businesses so that we can
\ndominate private sector business activities by the year 2020,\"
\nSutarto, an executive of the Association of Indigenous Indonesian
\nEntrepreneurs, told reporters in Semarang on Saturday.<\/p>\n
He was quoted by Antara as saying that by 2020, when Indonesia
\nis expected to have liberalized its economy, indigenous
\nentrepreneurs' role should be equal to that of other
\nentrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
Sutarto said that the association will put such a proposal to
\nthe government during the workshop, which begins today.<\/p>\n
He said that indigenous entrepreneurs' failure to dominate
\nIndonesia's economy was the result of a lack of support from the
\ngovernment and the banks.<\/p>\n
Speakers at the workshop are expected to include State
\nMinister of National Development Planning\/Chairman of the
\nNational Development Planning Board Ginandjar Kartasasmita,
\nMinister of Finance Mar'ie Muhammad, Minister of Defense and
\nSecurity Gen. Edi Sudradjat, and Commander of the Armed Forces
\nGen. Feisal Tanjung. The workshop will be attended by 150
\nexecutives representing 19 provinces, Sutarto said. (31)<\/p>",
