Govt must ensure fair election<\/p>\n

It is obvious that the general election held once every five
\nyears is aimed at giving an opportunity to every citizen to
\nexercise their right and responsibility to implement democracy
\nbased on the state philosophy Pancasila and the 1945
\nConstitution.<\/p>\n
The general election is also aimed at maintaining the unity
\nand integrity of the nation and continuing development in order
\nto raise people's living standards. Therefore, it is wrong for
\nany individual or group to consider the election process an arena
\nto foster egoism, monopolies and flatter-the-boss attitudes.<\/p>\n
To help the election produce desired results the government,
\nin this case the district chiefs, should indiscriminately
\nprotect, guide and give advice to the three parties contending
\nthe election i.e. Golkar, the United Development Party (PPP) and
\nthe Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI). For the sake of fair play,
\nthe banners of the three groups should be raised in the offices
\nof the district chiefs. This would avoid destructive
\ncompetitiveness among the political parties which should struggle
\nto enhance the quality of the election.<\/p>\n
