        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is bringing small and medium enterprises\n(SMEs) producing automotive components into the electric vehicle supply\nchain as the government seeks broader participation in the country\u2019s\nexpanding EV industry.<\/p>\n<p>Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said Indonesia has\nstrong potential to become a global EV player, backed by abundant\nresources, a large market, and integrated upstream-to-downstream\npolicies.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said EV ecosystem development should involve not only\nlarge manufacturers but also national SMEs to strengthen domestic\nindustrial capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government wants the EV ecosystem to involve not only large\nindustries but also SMEs to encourage knowledge and technology\ntransfer,\u201d Agus said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>As part of that effort, the Industry Ministry\u2019s Directorate General\nof Small, Medium, and Various Industries collaborated with the\nInvestment Ministry and manufacturers to explore EV supply-chain\nopportunities in Cikarang, West Java, on May 22.<\/p>\n<p>The event brought together component manufacturers, local\ngovernments, industry associations and automotive companies to expand\npartnerships between SMEs and major EV producers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope this creates strategic partnerships between transportation\nequipment SMEs and large industries while providing information about EV\ncomponent demand,\u201d Director General Reni Yanita said.<\/p>\n<p>Reni said Indonesia\u2019s EV market continues to expand rapidly, creating\nwider opportunities for domestic component suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries\n(Gaikindo) showed battery electric vehicle sales reached 33,150 units in\nthe first quarter, up 95.9 percent from a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia\u2019s electric bus fleet reached 798 units as of April, while\nelectric two-wheelers totaled 236,451 units in February, representing\naround 65 percent of the country\u2019s EV population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis presents an opportunity that automotive component SMEs must\noptimize for future growth,\u201d Reni said.<\/p>\n<p>EV market expansion has also been supported by growing charging\ninfrastructure.
