        "content": "<p>Govt introduces bioethics commission<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The government introduced on Tuesday a National<br>\nBioethics Commission (KBN), which will oversee and provide<br>\nrecommendation on all scientific issues from the ethical<br>\npoint of view.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Umar<br>\nAnggara Jenie said the commission was necessary as biotechnology<br>\ndevelopment has become more advanced and the country needs to<br>\nhave solid arguments on its scientific researches from the<br>\nethical perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The commission will serve a four-year term and will<br>\nbe represented by 35 members from various fields, including<br>\nscientists, medical experts, ethical experts and religious<br>\nleaders.<\/p>\n<p>The commission is expected to hold its first meeting on Dec.<br>\n1, 2004. -- JP<\/p>",
