        "content": "<p>Govt credibility in the balance<\/p>\n<p>The continuing problems in Aceh and Ambon are beginning to<br>\nnegatively affect the climate of hope and confidence that arose<br>\nafter Abdurrahman Wahid, better known as Gus Dur, and Megawati<br>\nSoekarnoputri came to power as President and Vice President,<br>\nrespectively. All the trust and goodwill which Gus Dur has won on<br>\nhis trips abroad will not be able to withstand the erosive tide<br>\nthat will certainly come unless the problems in Aceh and Maluku<br>\nare resolved.<\/p>\n<p>There was a time when problems could be easily localized<br>\nbecause transportation, communication, telecommunications as well<br>\nas social-political systems were limited in scope. But times have<br>\nchanged. Mobility of people is high and transportation and<br>\ncommunications are fast. In line with the demands for<br>\ndemocratization, this is a time of openness. It has become<br>\npractically impossible to localize problems or events. This was<br>\nwhat we experienced in the case of East Timor, and now the same<br>\nis happening with Aceh and Ambon.<\/p>\n<p>We do appreciate the President's hard work. However, so his<br>\nefforts are not in vain, we do hope that Gus Dur, Megawati and<br>\nthe Cabinet ministers concerned will give top priority to finding<br>\nsolutions to the problems in Aceh and Ambon.
