        "content": "<p>Govt audits pension funds<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The government will audit pension funds at least<br>\nevery five years, Ministry of Finance spokesman Agus Haryanto<br>\nsaid yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Agus said auditing could occur any time there was an<br>\nindication that a pension fund was violating regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a ministerial decree, signed by Minister of Finance<br>\nMari'e Muhammad on Jan. 22, 1997, the Directorate of Pension<br>\nFunds of the Directorate General of Financial Institutions will<br>\nnotify a pension fund before an audit.<\/p>\n<p>Pension funds must help auditors gain data or certificates<br>\nfrom public accountants, actuaries or other parties related to<br>\ntheir funds. But they can refuse to be audited if they have not<br>\nreceived notification from the appropriate government office.<\/p>\n<p>The government may replace a pension funds' executive board<br>\nwithin 60 days as a sanction for not cooperating with, or<br>\nmisleading, an audit. A pension fund may be dissolved after the<br>\n60-day deadline.<\/p>\n<p>The government has licensed 265 pension funds. (icn)<\/p>",
