        "content": "<p>Govt allocates $702,000 for e-learning<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The government has allocated Rp 6.25 billion (about<br>\nUS$702,000) for the installation of e-learning technology<br>\nequipment for 50 cities in eight provinces.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Education&apos;s director for vocational education<br>\nGatot Haripriowirjanto said on Friday that last year the ministry<br>\nspent Rp 1.125 billion for the installation of e-learning<br>\nequipment in nine cities in seven provinces.<\/p>\n<p>Arif Rachman, the chairman of the national committee of the<br>\nUnited Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization<br>\n(UNESCO), however, said that what was important for the education<br>\nsector right now was to expand education access for poor citizens<br>\nlike street children, for example.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested the government first improve the quality of<br>\nteachers and basic educational facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Technology is important but I think most teachers in<br>\nIndonesia are still busy thinking about what their families have<br>\nto eat every day,&quot; Arif said.<\/p>\n<p>E-learning technology allows students to study through<br>\nInternet programs fortified with graphic texts, animation and<br>\nsound effects.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the Directorate of Vocational Education has developed<br>\n40 learning subjects on automotive engineering, information<br>\ntechnology, electrical installation, machine tool technology, as<br>\nwell as metal and wood craftsmanship. --JP<\/p>",
