The Governor of Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB), Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, plans\nto import chilli peppers from outside Bumi Gora to control price surges\nin the market during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. He announced this during a\nsnap inspection at Tanjung Central Market in North Lombok on Wednesday\n(25 February 2026).<\/p>\n
Iqbal stated that chilli prices in several areas of NTB remain above\nthe Government Reference Price (HAP) during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. He\ncommitted to continuing to monitor chilli prices in NTB.<\/p>\n
\u201cChilli here is still above HAP, but relatively stable at around\n100,000 rupiahs, with some at 90,000 rupiahs. Meanwhile, in Mataram at\nseveral markets it has reached 200,000 rupiahs. This is what we want to\ninvestigate further,\u201d said Iqbal at Tanjung Market on Wednesday (25\nFebruary 2026).<\/p>\n
According to Iqbal, the price increase is influenced by weather\nfactors and limited stock. As a result, there is an imbalance between\ndemand and commodity availability in the market.<\/p>\n
As an intervention measure, Iqbal said, the NTB Provincial Government\nis also holding cheap markets by providing a number of commodities from\nthe State-Owned Logistics Company (Perum Bulog), such as rice, cooking\noil, and sugar at standard prices. \u201cWe sell them at standard prices so\nthat they can also influence the market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the local government is considering the option of\nimporting chilli from outside NTB. This effort is expected to increase\nsupply and reduce prices at the consumer level during Ramadan until Eid\nal-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is one of the things we are promoting. Perhaps in the near\nfuture, we have not yet determined the quantity, but at the very least\nin accordance with demand approaching Eid so that we can influence\nprices,\u201d Iqbal explained.<\/p>\n
According to Iqbal, the NTB Provincial Government is still\ncalculating the cost of supplying chilli from outside NTB by considering\nthe cheapest distribution costs. \u201cThere are several options, which we\nare considering based on which has the lowest transport costs,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Director of Food Consumption Diversification at the National Food\nAgency (Bapanas), Rinna Syawal, stated that chilli prices in several NTB\nregions are beginning to show a downward trend. Nationally, Rinna said,\nchilli prices are indeed still above the HAP set at 57,000 rupiahs per\nkilogram.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis phenomenon is not only occurring in NTB, but also in several\nother regions in Indonesia. In other areas there are three regencies\nthat according to our data are quite high\u2014East Lombok, Central Lombok,\nWest Lombok\u2014but yesterday and today they have already dropped although\nstill above the HAP for chilli,\u201d explained Rinna.<\/p>\n
According to Rinna, a short-term solution that can be implemented is\nto distribute chilli from surplus regions to deficit regions.
