Governor Sutiyoso to consider nomination for Perbakin chief<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Shooting and Hunting Association
\n(Perbakin) Executive Director Sutiyoso says he will consider
\nhis nomination for association chairman for the coming term.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso, who is also the governor of Jakarta, told reporters
\nyesterday after a meeting with National Sports Council Chairman
\nWismoyo Arismunandar that he would have to seek permission from
\nhis superior, the minister of internal affairs.<\/p>\n
\"You know I have many jobs to do, especially since becoming
\ngovernor,\" he said. \"I've been in the association for two terms.
\nThe first was from 1989 to 1993 as a deputy of the target
\ndivision and the second was from 1993 to 1997 as the executive
\ndirector. I think it's enough.\"<\/p>\n
\"So far we haven't heard any names nominated to chair the
\nassociation,\" he added.<\/p>\n
The association will hold a national congress at the Borobudur
\nIntercontinental Hotel, Central Jakarta, from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23.<\/p>\n
The congress was to have taken place in October but the
\nassociation had to delay it due to the 19th SEA Games being held
\nhere.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso said the association has been grooming women military
\nofficers to compete in the Asian Games in the women's trap event.<\/p>\n
\"We have been grooming them in Cilodong (West Java) as part of
\nour long-term program to improve our position in Asia,\" he said.
\n\"Right now we're number two after China. I hope we can win the
\nsilver in the 13th Asian Games.\"<\/p>\n
\"I don't think we have a good chance of reaching the top eight
\nin other events,\" he added.<\/p>\n
The council has named 16 potential sports to compete in the
\nAsian Games. Shooting was excluded even though the Indonesian
\nteam won 11 golds in the SEA Games.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso said the congress, which will be attended by 27
\nrepresentatives of the association's provincial branches, will
\ndiscuss reports from each branch and the association's national
\ncommittee.<\/p>\n
\"The congress will also decide the new officials for the 1997
\nto 2001 period,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Badminton<\/p>\n
Former shuttler Icuk Sugianto, who is also the Badminton
\nAssociation of Indonesia's West Jakarta mayoralty branch
\nchairman, said later yesterday that he would nominate both
\nbusinessman Aburizal Bakrie and Army Deputy Chief of Staff
\nSubagyo Hadi Siswoyo.<\/p>\n
\"I think we should include both Pak Ical (Aburizal) and Pak
\nSubagyo as the dual leaders at the congress,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The West Jakarta mayoralty branch named Ical as its nominee
\nfor the chairmanship, while four other branches have nominated
\nSubagyo for election at the national congress, which will take
\nplace at Hotel Indonesia between Nov. 29 and Dec. 1.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta branch's nomination has been supported by 10 other
\nbranches: West Java, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta,
\nLampung, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, Bali, North Sulawesi and
\nIrian Jaya.<\/p>\n
Icuk, who is also the chairman of the Pelita Bakrie club, said
\nthe association needs both figures as Ical and Subagyo.<\/p>\n
\"Subagyo will be needed as the decision maker while Ical will
\nbe needed as the manager, especially for the financial problems
\nwhich have affected the association for several years,\" he said.
