Governor defends decision to punish 11 real estate developers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja, in response to the
\ndecision of East Jakarta Mayor Sudarsono to suspend the permits
\nof 11 real estate developers, told reporters that while he is not
\nwell acquainted with the decision that he agrees with it.<\/p>\n
The decision effectively shuts down the 11 beginning April 18
\nby preventing them from acquiring land certificates, building
\npermits or any other documentation.<\/p>\n
\"Mayor Sudarsono hasn't yet presented a detailed report to me
\nbut I think his decision is in accordance with the city
\nregulations,\" Surjadi said.<\/p>\n
Surjadi made the remark after inducting four high ranking
\nofficials at City Hall yesterday.<\/p>\n
Surjadi said he believes Sudarsono had acceptable reasons for
\nhis decision.<\/p>\n
The developers in question are PT Bangun Indah Sakti, PT Aneka
\nElok, PT Inti Utama Dharma, PT Asmawi Agung Corporation, PT
\nCentral Bumi Indah, PT Gubah Nusa Semesta, PT Altan Karsa Prisma,
\nPT Bina Karnada, PT Nusa Persada and PT Billy & Moon and the
\nstate-owned Perumnas at Perumahan Malaka Asri.<\/p>\n
Their violations range from misusing plots designated for
\nsocial and public facilities to illegally acquiring land permits
\nfrom the state-owned housing development company Perumnas.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, H. Prawoto, assistant to the city
\nadministration's secretary for economic development, said the
\ncore of the problem may have been the different interpretations
\nof permits on land use (SIPPT).<\/p>\n
\"Very frequently, developers interpret the issuance of SIPPT
\ntotally differently from the city administration,\" Prawoto said.<\/p>\n
Prawoto said that in many cases of abuses it is small
\ndevelopers who are to blame.<\/p>\n
\"Small developers, for instance those who build housing
\ncomplexes on only 5-hectare plots of land, often neglect their
\nresponsibilities once they succeed in selling most or all of the
\nhouses they have built,\" Prawoto said.<\/p>\n
The City Council also voiced its support for the mayor's
\nstand.<\/p>\n
Sjarifuddin Siregar Pahu of the United Development Party
\npraised the action as courageous, especially considering the
\nwidespread public speculation on collusion between bureaucrats
\nand entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
\"I totally support the mayor's action... they (the developers)
\nshould be given sterner punishment. If necessary, we should bring
\nthem to court,\" he told reporters.<\/p>\n
He suspected that those developers might have committed
\nmanipulation in order to gain personal profits.<\/p>\n
Another city councilor, Arie Putra Bintana of the Golkar
\nfaction, also supported the mayor's move and praised the
\nmayoralty's measures against corrupt developers. (06)<\/p>",
