The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, has\nsigned a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding an eye care\nsupervisory network with the Cicendo Eye Hospital in Bandung. This\ncollaboration is part of the North Sumatra Provincial Government\u2019s\nefforts to improve the quality of healthcare services, specifically\nfocusing on ophthalmic care.<\/p>\n
The MoU signing took place at the North Sumatra Governor\u2019s Office in\nMedan on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Governor Bobby Nasution stated that the\npartnership aligns with the provincial government\u2019s priority programmes\nin the health sector. Having already worked to expand public access to\nhealthcare, the administration is now focusing on enhancing the quality\nof the services provided.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe North Sumatra Provincial Government\u2019s first priority in health\nwas ensuring the community could access healthcare services, which we\nachieved early in our term. Today, after ensuring access, we are working\nto improve the quality of those services,\u201d said Bobby. He added that\nthis improvement involves upgrading health facilities and strengthening\nhospital service capacities, including regional hospitals (RSUD) and\ncommunity health centres (Puskesmas).<\/p>\n
As a key component of this initiative, the provincial-owned eye\nhospital will benefit from the expertise of Cicendo Eye Hospital, which\nserves as Indonesia\u2019s National Eye Centre. The President Director of\nCicendo Eye Hospital, Antonia Kartika, explained that the eye care\nnetwork programme focuses on increasing the capacity of human resources,\nparticularly eye doctors and nurses in North Sumatra. The programme\nincludes theoretical training via digital platforms, workshops for\nophthalmologists from approximately 49 hospitals across North Sumatra,\nand practical assistance for cataract surgeries.
