Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Law, Supramed Andi Agtas, stated\nthat the government is striving to direct state spending towards\nutilising innovation results that have obtained patents and are\nregistered with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI)\nof the Ministry of Law.<\/p>\n
As confirmed in Jakarta on Friday, Supratman noted that this policy\nis expected to encourage universities to increase research activities\nwhile producing innovations that can be developed and utilised by the\npublic.<\/p>\n
Supratman made these remarks during a press conference following the\n\u2018What\u2019s Up Campus Calls Out\u2019 (WCCO) event at Airlangga University\n(Unair) in Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday (17\/9).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe, the government under the direction of President Prabowo, will\nendeavour to ensure that, at the very least, government spending is\ndirected from the outset towards purchasing the results of innovations\nthat already possess patents registered with the Ministry of Law,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
According to Supratman, the protection of intellectual property\nshould not end with the possession of a patent certificate, but must be\nfollowed by the utilisation and commercialisation of the innovative\nresults.<\/p>\n
During the event, the Ministry of Law, through the DJKI, facilitated\nthe signing of four patent licensing contracts between patent holders\nand industries in need of such technology.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe primary goal is business matching\u2014connecting university research\nwith industry,\u201d Supratman stated.<\/p>\n
The four contracts include agreements between the National Research\nand Innovation Agency (BRIN) and CV Inotek Karya Utama for a perforated\ndrum-type organic waste processor, and the University of Surabaya with\nPT Alga Rosan Nusantara for a ready-to-drink teak leaf tea product.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Airlangga University (Unair) partnered with idsMED for\na portable textile-based cage phototherapy system and method for\ntreating jaundice in infants, while Ciputra University collaborated with\nPT MSS GRUP for an integrated distribution and logistics management\nsystem.<\/p>\n
In addition to the four licensing contracts, the Ministry of Law\npresented six patent certificates to several universities and\nindustries.<\/p>\n
Supratman stated that the government\u2019s role is to build simple\nregulations, whereas the development of licensing schemes and the\nincrease of intellectual property valuation are necessary to expand the\neconomic benefits of research results.<\/p>\n
He also encouraged the Ministry of Law to strengthen collaboration\nwith universities to develop the utilisation of intellectual\nproperty.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Rector of Unair, Muhammad Madyan, noted that while the\nuniversity has achieved high levels of publication and patent\nregistration, research results must be pushed beyond mere academic\npublication.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that research at Airlangga University does not stop at\npublication, but that we also encourage it to produce creativity or\nproducts that can be enjoyed by the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Madyan added that Unair possesses the internal facilities and\nmechanisms to support the development of innovative products, including\nencouraging products to be commercialised or patented.<\/p>\n
