        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Government Communication Agency (Bakom) has\nstated that the government is targeting the addition of 100 to 200\nPeople\u2019s Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) locations in 2027-2028, with a\nprojection of 500 operational schools by 2029.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy III for Partnership and Media Relations at Bakom, Kurnia\nRamadhana, announced during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday\nthat the programme will expand from 166 to 182 schools for the 2026-2027\nacademic year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubsequently, for 2027-2028, the government is targeting the\naddition of 100 to 200 People\u2019s School locations per year. By 2029, the\ngovernment is targeting the construction of 500 People\u2019s Schools across\n38 provinces and 416 regencies\/cities,\u201d Kurnia stated.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that as of 21 July 2026, 93 People\u2019s Schools are\npermanent institutions ready to operate, alongside 81 established pilot\nschools and eight new pilot schools.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion is part of a gradual transition to develop the People\u2019s\nSchools from a pilot model into permanent, more sustainable educational\nunits, ensuring that children from poor and underprivileged families\nreceive a quality education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the increasing number of People\u2019s Schools, the target number of\nstudents for the 2026-2027 academic year has also risen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Citing data from the Ministry of Social Affairs as of 8 July 2026, he\ndetailed that the target for new students includes 6,305 at the primary\nschool level, 11,186 at the junior high school level, and 11,077 at the\nsenior high school level, bringing the total to 28,568 new students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThus, the total number of People\u2019s School students across primary,\njunior high, and senior high levels, including existing and provisional\ntargets, reaches 43,344 this year,\u201d Kurnia concluded.<\/p>",
