Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government continues to strengthen the\nnational cybersecurity system in response to a surge in digital crime\nthreats recorded by the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN)\nthroughout 2025 and into early 2026. These digital crimes target the\ngovernment, economic, and national security sectors.<\/p>\n
In a written statement released in Jakarta on Tuesday, the Chief of\nStaff to the President, Dudung Abdurachman, stated that the government,\nthrough various ministries and agencies, is continuously reinforcing the\nnational cybersecurity system. He emphasised that cross-sector\ncoordination is crucial to ensure that cyber threats can be handled in a\nrapid, measurable, and integrated manner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Presidential Staff Office is also encouraging the strengthening\nof cross-sector coordination so that the handling of cyber threats can\nbe carried out quickly, measurably, and in an integrated fashion,\u201d said\nDudung.<\/p>\n
According to BSSN data, the number of cyberattacks throughout 2025\nreached 5.5 billion. This figure represents a drastic surge, increasing\nby 714 per cent compared to the annual average during the 2020-2024\nperiod. The trend of increasing cyberattacks is expected to continue\ninto 2026. Data shows that between 1 January and 15 April 2026, 1.52\nbillion cyberattacks have already occurred in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Dudung highlighted that the threats encompass various forms of crime,\nranging from personal data theft, online fraud, and the spread of hoaxes\nto system hacking and the dissemination of radicalism propaganda through\ndigital media. He noted that awareness regarding personal data\nprotection must be a collective concern, as the digital space has become\nan integral part of daily life.<\/p>\n
While the government is working to strengthen security systems,\nDudung emphasised that the authorities cannot work alone in facing these\nthreats. The role of the public is considered vital in maintaining\ndigital security by being more prudent in using social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must be wiser in using social media, protect the confidentiality\nof personal data, and increase digital literacy so that we are not\neasily provoked by false information or digital fraud,\u201d said\nDudress.<\/p>\n
He called upon all elements of the nation to work together to ensure\nIndonesia\u2019s digital space remains safe, healthy, and productive.
