Government sets up high appointment council<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto has set up a national council
\nin charge of studying proposals on the appointment, promotion and
\ntransfer of high-ranking civil servants.<\/p>\n
Minister\/State Secretary Moerdiono told newsmen yesterday that
\nthe council, which is chaired by Vice President Try Sutrisno,
\nreports to the President.<\/p>\n
Members of the council include himself, state minister\/cabinet
\nsecretary, minister of administrative reforms and head of the
\nNational Intelligence Coordinating Body (Bakin).<\/p>\n
Moerdiono said that according to the newly-issued presidential
\ndecree, ministers or heads of the high government agencies and
\nsecretary generals of the state institutions can nominate three
\ncandidates to fill in a Level One government post, which is
\nequivalent to the secretary general of a ministry.<\/p>\n
He said the council will study the proposals and later give
\ntheir advise to the President. It is also the case with
\nnew assignments of the high-ranking officials.<\/p>\n
Moerdiono said the formation of the council also aims at
\nassuring the careers of high-ranking civil servants.<\/p>\n
With the formation, he said, it is hoped that people will stop
\nsuspecting the for and against practices behind any appointments.
