        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2013 The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral\nResources (ESDM), has officially revoked the mining business permits\n(IUP) of four companies operating in the Raja Ampat area of Southwest\nPapua. The move was taken as a demonstration of commitment to\nenvironmental protection in the conservation zone. However, one company\npermitted to continue its mining activities is PT Gag Nikel, a\nsubsidiary of PT Aneka Tambang (Antam).<\/p>\n<p>Investment Minister and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board\n(BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that PT Gag Nikel is a state asset and\nhas been conducting its operations in accordance with Environmental\nImpact Assessment (AMDAL) requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have personally observed the activities on the ground, and\nthankfully the mining operations comply with the AMDAL. Moreover, PT Gag\nNikel is a state asset,\u201d said Bahlil at the Presidential Palace Complex\nin Jakarta on Tuesday (10\/06\/2025).<\/p>\n<p>According to Bahlil, the government evaluation team\u2019s findings\nindicated that PT Gag Nikel\u2019s mining activities were assessed as\noperating well and in compliance with regulations. The government\nconsiders the company still fit to continue operating, on condition that\nenvironmental monitoring is carried out rigorously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur evaluation shows that PT Gag Nikel\u2019s mining activities are\nproceeding satisfactorily. However, strict oversight must be maintained,\nparticularly regarding environmental impact,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>President Prabowo Subianto, Bahlil said, has also directed his\nofficials not to be complacent in monitoring mining activities,\nespecially in sensitive areas such as Raja Ampat, which possesses an\nexceptionally rich marine ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President has emphasised that oversight must be maximised to\nensure mining activities do not damage the environment, particularly\ncoral reefs and biodiversity in Raja Ampat,\u201d Bahlil stressed.<\/p>\n<p>The four mining companies whose permits have been revoked by the\ngovernment are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PT Anugerah Surya Pratama<\/li>\n<li>PT Nurham<\/li>\n<li>PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa<\/li>\n<li>PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The revocations form part of the government\u2019s efforts to preserve the\nRaja Ampat area, recognised as one of the world\u2019s marine zones with the\nhighest biodiversity. The government has affirmed that environmental\nsustainability remains the foremost priority in policy-making, including\nin the mining sector.<\/p>",
